Effects of Collaborative Writing on EFL Students’ Paragraph Writing Performance: Focus on Content and Coherence

This study attempted to examine the effects of collaborative writing on EFL students’ paragraph level performance focusing two aspects writing: content and coherence. Two batches Grade 11 students at Felegebirahn Secondary School in Amhara Region, Ethiopia were selected for group based mean scores test given before intervention. These randomly assigned into groups: experimental (n=44) control using lottery system conduct study. The made practice tasks collaboratively; while same individually 12 weeks. main instrument used collect data was test. Students’ questionnaire semi-structured interview also gather regarding attitude towards classes. results compare after T-test employed analyze interpret if tests differences with-in groups between statistically significant or not. findings revealed that who practiced activities collaboratively have brought more improvements coherence paragraphs they produced training than individually. It noted had exhibited positive writing. confirmed by majority respondents from finally enjoyed motivated write English their engagement concluded practicing classes can improve incorporate relevant coherent ideas sentences English. Therefore, it recommended lessons must continue be adopted wider scale.
